To Melbourne on the XPT sleeper
Excited by the prospect of reliving the experience of seeing my very first movie and hearing the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra perform it I bought tickets to The Empire Strikes Back in Concert in Melbourne back in February. Then I did nothing about actually getting there. Much as I love Melbourne, due to family commitments I…

Campbelltown change
Had a surprisingly good sleep on the train. Woke a few times, once to see the Moon set and the stars appear in their brilliance. Disappointed that no meteors were to be seen. Such a nice day that I could have flown, but would not have reached here so early. Need that change at Revesby…

Central
It’s Christmas at Central. Our train was delayed due to track failure and congestion, but I already knew that would happen with the storms.

Hurstville
Setting off for my latest crazy adventure. An overnight train ride to Melbourne, watch a concert, then another overnighter back. Glad I’m not flying. Too many storms!

The Overland

Photo Marcus Wong via Wikipedia It was terrible to discover this week that The Overland, the only rail service between Melbourne and Adelaide, faces an imminent axing due to a lack of financial support from the South Australian government. The Overland holds a…
