  • The answer is snow

There must come a time when people learning to ski suddenly discover the exhilaration of weaving their way at speed down the slope and find a new addiction in their lives. At least that’s what I suppose happens. After two hours of slipping and skidding, of trying to stay upright and not go too fast…

  • Southern chill

Heading south past old train lines, granite boulders towards the snow.

  • Towards the snow

From the hot sun  and beaches of Botany Bay to the chill waters of Lake Jindabyne overlooked by snow capped mountains. Along the way we had lunch at Ikea in Canberra, sat behind slow cars and saw many police. Finding dinner in Jindabyne was difficult with almost everywhere booked out. Ended up with Thai takeaway…

  • An evening by the beach

No we aren’t flying anywhere. Just a stay in our favourite hotel by Botany Bay. A swim, game of tennis, watching the planes and an evening stroll by the beach.

  • By the beach

It’s nearing the time for the airport to sleep. Once I would dream of being inside that terminal, excited for the journey to begin. Now I would worry what the darkness hides. But earlier at the traveller’s time I still felt the desire. Either way it is for nothing. I’m not flying anywhere. Just spending…

  • Overlooking the Woronora

We can’t always be travelling. There is work to do and, for kids, school to attend. Fortunately for us the bush is not far away.

  • At Cairns on the way home

Here we are at the Qantas Club lounge at Cairns eating fresh fruit and wishing we were in bed. The Jetstar flight back was okay. Managed to get a little sleep but basically just had the flight map on with the John Williams album as the playlist or a relaxation video playing.  Couldn’t eat much…

  • A Rapi:t trip to the airport

Our final day in Japan was spent shopping, partly as a way of escaping the heat. Our JR Passes have run out so we caught the weirdly designed Nankai Rapi:t Beta to Kansai International Airport.  As always, I’d love to spend longer in Japan but I wish the flight were instaneous to home.

  • Universal Studios Japan

From a Japanese film studio yesterday to a Hollywood theme park today. This was our second visit to USJ and we also visited their Singapore sibling earlier this year.  It felt like Singapore. Hot, humid and big tropical clouds threatening in the sky. None of the miserable wet weather of our last visit. I think…
