Gorgeous scenery along the line to Abashiri. Gentle farmlands followed by clear mountain streams and stunning autumn foliage as we rise into the mountains.

On the Taisetsu Express to Abashiri.

Leaving Biei after catching a taxi back from the farm. This train leaves from Biei. No time to grab any lunch unfortunately, as I’m sure Biei has some great cafes. Looks like that kind of place.

Catching an early train to Biei, maybe for some breakfast. Not sure what we’ll find.

Arrived after almost 12 hours of travel. Last stop for the day.

The Nemuro Line used to go all the way to, you guessed it, Nemuro! After a typhoon the section between Higashi-Shikagoe and Shintoku was damaged. It’s not certain that it will ever be rebuilt, so this is the end of the line for now, with a bus service joining the broken bit.

Heading back now to Furano.
